Nutrition

The Significance

For many of us, college is the first time we have complete control over what we eat. We can shop and cook for ourselves, or choose the foods we put on our plates in the dining halls on campus. With this freedom comes the responsibility to choose wisely. Our diet plays a huge role in ensuring that our bodies can function properly. This includes giving us energy for our daily activities, building and rebuilding muscle after exercise, helping to prevent illnesses, and carrying out various other bodily processes. Certain vitamins and minerals are even important in brain processes; therefore, not only is proper nutrition important for our overall health, but it is important for academic performance as well. Eating a healthy, balanced diet also sets us up for a healthy future, free of diseases like diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
